 주요 연구분야로는 지반-지보재간 상호작용을 고려한 NATM터널의 최적설계, 복층 터널 근접시공 안정성 확보를 위한 설계기술 개발, 터널 내부 안전성 확립을 위한 터널지보재 품질개선 및 최적 시공∙설계방안 개발이 있다.

 중금속을 포함한 다양한 오염물질의 환경매질 내 존재형태를 화학계산 및 기기분석 기법을 통해 확인하고, 인체 및 생태독성에 미치는 영향을 정량화하여, 위해성을 평가하는 연구를 수행하고 있다. 최근에는 보다 정확한 생태독성 예측을 위한 기계학습기법의 도입, 미세플라스틱의 풍화특성 및 생태독성 평가 등으로 연구영역을 확장해 나가고 있다.

▪ 주요 연구분야
콘크리트 구조물의 비선형 해석을 포함한 콘크리트의 재활용 및 지속가능한 기술 개발과 토목분야에서의 FRP를 활용한 유지·보수 기술 개발 등 최근에는 국제표준화기구(ISO)에서 섬유보강 콘크리트의 시험법 제정 등 콘크리트 산업의 국제표준화를 위한 연구를 수행하고 있다.

▪ 간략 소개
심종성 교수의 주요 저서로는 "프리스트레스콘크리트 구조설계", "철근콘크리트 구조설계" 등이 있으며 국내외 유명한 학술지 100편 이상의 논문을 게재하였으며, 학술활동을 통하여 300여 편 이상의 논문을 발표하였다. 뿐만아니라, "초미립자 재료를 활용한 섬유강화플라스틱 바 제조방법" 등 총 8개의 특허등록을 하였으며 50여명에 이르는 석․박사들을 지도하였다.

학회활동으로는 대한토목학회 회장, 한국콘크리트학회 회장 등을 역임하였으며, 우수 논문상, 공로상, 표창장 등을 받았고 일본콘크리트학회에서 감사패를 받는 등 여러 수상경력을 가지고 있다. 현재는 아시아콘크리트연맹의 회장직을 수행하고 있으며, 아시아지역에 적합한 콘크리트구조물의 설계, 시공, 유지관리를 위해 앞장서고 있다. 나아가 콘크리트 분야의 국제 표준화를 위한 다양한 활동을 하고 있다.

▪ 간략 소개  
 CM의 국내 보급 및 적용의 선두주자로서, GIS의 활용을 통한 시공의 효율성에 대해 강조하였고, 공학자로서의 윤리사상을 확립하기 위한 공학윤리 교육에 앞장서고 있다. 또한 플랜트건설, 극한우주공학 등 새로운 분야에 대한 연구를 진행하여 미래 건설 분야의 발전 방향을 미리 예측하여 관련 과학기술을 국내에 소개하고 세계 저명 석학들을 초대하여 학술행사를 개최, 국제 네트워크를 구축하는 등 미래지향적이고 진취적인 시야를 가지고 건설 분야의 발전을 위해 노력하고 있다. 이와 같은 노력의 결과로써 세계적인 인명사전 ‘Who's who’에 등재되었다.
